Perthori Hill

Description

Perthori Hill lies a few kilometres west of Tripoli, at an elevation of 1,559 metres on the slopes of Mount Mainalo. Thanks to its strategic position, it offers a panoramic view over the central Peloponnese. In the early stages of the Revolution, Theodoros Kolokotronis instructed the inhabitants of the nearby village to maintain a phryctoria on this site—a lookout post that used smoke signals to alert the revolutionary centres of Chryssovitsi, Piana, Valtesiniko, and Zarakova (modern Mainalo) to the movements of Ottoman forces. This network of signals strengthened coordination and enhanced the defensive readiness of the Greek fighters.
