In the settlement of Strongylo, within the community of Kotylio in the Municipality of Megalopoli, Arcadia, stands the small chapel of Saint Athanasios. It is a historic site of remembrance, as at the location known as the “Pass of Saint Athanasios” the first victorious battle of the Greeks against the Ottomans took place under the leadership of Theodoros Kolokotronis, only a few days after the outbreak of the Revolution, on 27 March 1821.
